Group Support
With 30 years of experience in education, including 11 years as Learning Specialist at Georgetown Day School and co-author of Rhyme to Read, my passion is helping children become confident readers.
Now, as a consultant, I aim to support both educators and parents in building the foundational skills that lead to reading success.

Parent Talk
I am excited to offer two valuable opportunities for preschools:
-
Preschool Literacy: Professional Development for Teachers
-
Raising a Reader: Strategies for Reading Success (Roundtable Talk for Parents)
Parents often expect preschools to teach reading, but my talks help both educators and parents understand the critical role of building foundational skills. By focusing on these early steps, children will be better prepared for formal reading instruction in kindergarten or first grade. I assist teachers in communicating this message and work directly with families to reinforce it.
For Teachers: Preschool Literacy Workshop
This session covers key areas of preschool literacy—phonological awareness, print awareness, the alphabetic principle, and oral language. We’ll explore best practices such as literacy-rich environments and interactive read-alouds. My goal is to affirm and deepen the great work already being done in your classrooms.
Raising a Reader Roundtable
This informal, Q&A-style talk focuses on building a strong foundation for reading success in the preschool years. I address common concerns, such as “Is it ok if my child isn’t reading yet?” and “How can I support my child’s reading development?”. Parents leave feeling empowered and excited to support their child’s journey toward becoming a lifelong reader.

Raising a Reader Roundtable Talk For Parents
I’m excited to join your group for an engaging roundtable discussion focused on laying a strong foundation for reading success in the early preschool years. This informal, interactive session is designed to address the common questions and concerns that parents often have, such as, “Is it okay if my child isn’t reading yet?” and “What can I do to support my child’s reading development at home?”

Throughout the talk, I’ll provide practical tips and insights into how children develop early literacy skills, and offer strategies for creating a positive, supportive environment that nurtures a love for reading. The goal is to help parents feel confident and empowered, leaving with a clear understanding of how to guide their child’s journey toward becoming a successful, lifelong reader.

By the end of the session, parents will not only feel more informed, but also excited and motivated to actively participate in their child’s early reading experience, fostering a lifelong love of books and learning.
“I attended Lynn’s roundtable and learned so much! Her approach helped ease my anxiety about early reading and gave me the confidence to support my child’s growth.” - Nina Ritch
